According to the National Automotive Dealers Association and Wards Intelligence Data, dealerships sold five times as many electric vehicles in 2022 as in 2020. This same report projected that EV sales will continue to increase in 2023.
NADA reported that franchised dealerships sold nearly 260,000 battery-electric vehicles last year, up from 135,000 in 2021 and 53,000 in 2020. NADA also cited Consumer Reports data that shows EV demand increased 350% from 2020 to 2022.
Dealers have been the primary consumer educators of EVs and they are leading the way in EV investments such as power lines, chargers, and other infrastructure.
